More than 17 pounds of liquid methamphetamine hidden in a dog shampoo bottle at Los Angeles International Airport was discovered in cargo transport to Australia earlier this month, officials said Wednesday.
The discovery was made on April 1 as officers assigned to the LAX outbound executive team were conducting tests on outbound shipping, declared “Assorted Dog Shampoos.”
Within the cargo, officers found 12 plastic bottles labeled dog shampoo.
“After opening the bottle, CBP officials discovered a crystallized white material that tested methamphetamine after further analysis,” the news release said.

Officials estimated the potential street value of methamphetamine at $1.8 million.
