A construction accident Thursday at an Orange County high school left one worker dead and another injured, authorities said.
Two workers were injured at the Villa Park High School construction site around 10:21 a.m., the Orange County Fire Department said in a social media post. According to multiple media outlets, the accident occurred when the bleachers in an auditorium that was undergoing renovations collapsed.
After Orange County sheriff’s deputies and firefighter paramedics responded, one employee was admitted to a local trauma center and another was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said.
Officials did not disclose the circumstances of the accident, but said no students or staff were involved or injured and there was no threat to the school. No further details were available.
Orange Unified School District said in a social media post that counselors will be available for staff and students.
The California Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident and said the investigation could take up to six months. If health and safety violations are found, government agencies can issue citations.
