The 12-year-old is in danger after being accidentally shot at a parking battle in San Bernardino County on Friday.
Ontario Police said they received a call at 4:15pm reporting the shooting that just happened at Veterans Park, 1341 East D St.
Officers arrive and find the victim of a boy suffering from one gunshot wound. According to the first report, the boy was sitting in the rear passenger seat of the family’s car when he was shot.
The police department said officers soon began treating the young victims with life-saving measures.
As of 11pm on Friday, authorities did not provide any updates on the condition of the juvenile other than he had undergone emergency surgery before being taken to a child’s trauma center for more treatment.
Researchers determined that the violence began as an oral battle between two men in a park car park.
During the debate, police said both suspects produced firearms and shot each other.
“The juvenile victim was not involved in the argument and was hit during the exchange,” Ontario Police said at its release.
The department has identified the suspects as Damien Marquis Berry, 25, of Victorville and Anthony Dionte Irwing, 35, of Los Angeles.
Officers arrested Berry and Irwing and detained them shortly after the shooting.
“Berry is currently in post-release Community Supervision (PRCS) and is currently on probation in Los Angeles County,” the department said. “Each of them has a wide range of criminal history, including violent crimes.”
The Ontario Provincial Police Department urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Gabe Gutierrez at 909-408-1632 or non-emergency routes at 909-986-6711.
