A 16-year-old boy who allegedly fatally attacked a man trying to stop a group of shoplifters at South El Montest Rip Mall has been arrested and is waiting for words on a possible criminal charge, the sheriff said Monday.
The teenager whose name was not released due to his age was arrested Friday. He is suspected of driving the car that struck the victim on the afternoon of April 9 in the parking lot of a giant discount store in the 2000 block of Darfee Avenue on April 9th.
The vehicle was also recovered.
Sheriff’s officials said Yagubi, the shopkeeper’s brother, had been visiting the business when the suspect entered the store and stole the goods. Yaghoubi chased the suspect into the parking lot, and a physical altercation continued.
“During the altercation, a second suspect left the dark sedan and fought the victim,” sheriff’s official said in a statement.
Both suspects then enter the sedan moment after the attack, and the driver is said to have deliberately attacked Yaguhobi with the vehicle multiple times before fleeing. Yaghoubi was declared dead at the scene, sheriff’s officials reported.
Sheriff’s officials will be filed with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office to consider criminal charges against the teen.
Additional suspects were still sought.
