Multiple arrests have been made in the murder of an 18-year-old, previously cold due to a lack of leads.

On Monday, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office announced that five people had been identified and arrested in connection with the murder of Andres Valdes in Mead Valley on June 13, 2007.

Valdez, 51, was shot multiple times in a home in the 19,000 block of community Mariposa Avenue in West Riverside County.

That night, deputies at the Sheriff’s Office station in Perris responded to the house for reports of shots fired during the invasion and robbery of a potential home.

Deputies found Valdez on the scene and were declared dead by paramedics. Additional victims were found at home. They included several people who were assaulted and suffered minor injuries.

Witnesses told investigators that several masked men entered the property to commit a robbery. Valdez fought the assailant, but at least one person shot him fatally.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Central Murder Unit took over the investigation, but ultimately it got cold without arrests due to a lack of leads or evidence.

Earlier this year, a new set of investigators decided to review and resume the case.

“In the past few months, multiple suspects have been identified as being involved in the murder and robbery,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Five people were eventually arrested. These include two people who live in a short drive from where Valdez was killed.

The five suspects have been identified as Kenneth Tucker, 37, of Riverside. Deshaun Hill, 36, of Riverside. Dennis Haynes, 37, of Phoenix. Kenneth Haynes, 37, of Phoenix. Keith Crutchfield, 37, of Killeen, Texas;

Hill was arrested in Riverside on July 5th and booked at Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, and the following day Tucker was arrested at Riverside and booked at COIS Bird Detention Center in Marieta.

The other three were arrested in Arizona and Texas from July 14th to July 21st.

All three suspects arrested out of state were taken to Riverside County to face charges, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office says it faces five potential accusations of the murder in the murder of Andres Valdez.

This investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information will be urged to contact Darryl Robertson or Andrew Lucifora of the RSD Central Murder Unit at 951-955-2777.
