19 charged with a Mexican mafia conspiracy to kill rap artist

Los Angeles County prosecutors accused Wednesday of 19 people of conspiracy to kill a rapper who allegedly offended members of the Mexican mafia, a prison-based syndicate for members of Latino gang members.

According to a complaint filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Mexican Mafia member Manuel “Snuffy” Quintero has accused him of issuing an order in 2022 to kill Nelson Abrego, who plays under the name Swifty Blue.

In the complaint, prosecutors described the vast conspiracy over Tiktok’s message and the vast conspiracy, a Los Angeles County city where both prisoners from Kern County, prisoners from downtown Los Angeles, gang members from Paramount, and Quintero and Abrego are called to their homes.

Quintero, 49, was arrested Wednesday and has not yet entered a plea. It was not clear from court records whether he had a lawyer. Quintero, a longtime member of Paramount Varrio Gang, serves prison time for assault, manufacturing methamphetamine and false imprisonment, court records show.

Manuel Quintero, on display in a photo from the California Department of Corrections and Corrections on February 15, 2014, was identified by law enforcement officials as a member of the Mexican Mafia.

On the Great Ve Day of 2022, Giuseppe “Smart” Leiba, a suspect in Quitero, told the informants he had informed gang members in Paramount, Compton and Downtown that they had been instructed to attack Abrego “visually.”

Leiba, 34, is currently in custody in an unrelated federal case involving him with selling drugs and guns in Imperial County. He pleaded guilty to human trafficking of methamphetamine in March and has not yet been sentenced. His attorney in the federal case did not immediately return a request for comment.

After the informant asked if the rapper “Snuff is angry,” Leiba is said to have said about Abrego about “F—he.”

It is unclear why Quintero was angry at Abrego on Wednesday when he was unable to comment.

In a 2024 interview with the Times, the rapper refused to discuss potential issues with the Mexican mafia or “prison politics.”

Abrego previously said that his music resonates with people because “everyone wants to be a gang.”

“Everyone wants to be big, bad, tough, whether you’re a lawyer, a police officer or a kid going to school,” he said in 2024.

Eight months after he spoke to the informant, Leiba accused him of warning someone else in Tiktok’s message to stay away from the rapper.

“Ua lil 411 su will not be misled by the Internet,” he wrote. “Swifty ended his career.”

“I tried to lead him to him, but he didn’t listen,” Leiba continued, adding that the rapper is now “getting the blues” at the men’s central prison.

In November 2023, Abrego was jailed on charges of possession of a gun. Onesimo’s “Vamps” Gonzalez holds two cells down from the rapper and calls his mother, telling his associates to ask if “still singer” is “still good.”

Gonzalez’s mother hung up. When her son called back, she said, “He’s not good.”

Both Gonzalez and his mother are being charged with conspiracy. Gonzalez was already in custody. Dominga Gonzalez, 66, was arrested at Bellflower’s home on Wednesday, according to a statement from the FBI.

Two days after the mother and son spoke, another prisoner, Jonathan “Dreamer” Kevedo, called a man incarcerated in Kern County, was using a contraband cell phone.

After mentioning “Swifty Blue,” Quebedo is said to have asked Jacob’s “Eagle” David if he remembered “Laza Rapper” “who was in the shower.”

Prosecutors believed this was a reference to rapper Jaime Brugada Valdez, known as Morney Suede, who was stabbed in the shower at a corrections training facility in Saledad in 2023, and was sentenced to death.

It is said that “the final result must be the same.”

The next day, according to the complaint, David instructed Quevedo to tell the attacker: [is] With prejudice. ”

Quebedo is said to have confirmed that it was “already moving.”

The next morning at 5:50am, when the prisoners were released from their cells to shower, Adrian’s “Slick” Bueno, Andrew “Largo” Sinaia and Jude “Crazy” Valle entered Abrego’s cell, the complaint says. Michael’s “Weasel” Ortiz blocked nearby cameras, but Bueno, Sinaia and Valle defeated the rapper and “sliced” him, prosecutors charged.

About five hours later, Quebedo called out a woman from the prison and asked David to tell him that “the old man got a rap session.”

“They didn’t get a really good show,” Quebedo said. “Expect them to perform on the 4000th floor” – another area of prison – “As soon.”

Abrego’s attempts in life had failed, and by March 2024, Leiva told Joshua in a Tiktok message to “Demon” Ewan that the rapper had recorded a live stream outside his family’s home “as we speak.”

Euan went to the car at 1am to the house and sent Leyva a photo of the gun to the car cup holder, according to the complaint. “He’s not here,” he wrote to Leiba.

Ewan is said to have subsequently told Leiba that he had sent people to destroy the Abrego family home. According to the complaint, he sent a photo of a graffiti that read “Swifty Blue 187,” a reference to the California Criminal Code section for murder.

Euan, 37, avoided arrest on Wednesday and remains massive, according to the FBI.
