Two people have died in the Eaton Fire northeast of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Malone confirmed at a press conference Wednesday morning.
Their identities and circumstances of death have not been disclosed.
Marrone added that the fire caused “a number of serious injuries” to people who were not evacuated. Exact numbers have not yet been provided.
At the same press conference, Marrone acknowledged that more than 100 structures were destroyed in the fire, including the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center.
Approximately 19,000 residents and 8,200 buildings are under threat from wind-driven fires.
The fire broke out in the Altadena area Tuesday night around 6:20 p.m., according to Cal Fire. A small 10-acre fire fanned by high winds quickly spread to more than 400 acres by 8 p.m.
As of Wednesday morning, Cal Fire estimates that number has increased to more than 10,000 acres burned with 0% containment. The flames spread south toward Pasadena.
More than 500 firefighters are currently fighting the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Eaton Fire is one of four active wildfires in Los Angeles County.
