Two Riverside County women were arrested on charges of allegedly threatening to expel the man if they fail to pay $100,000.
On March 4, Riverside County Councillors received reports that Rancho Mirage casualties were forced for more than $100,000.
The victim said he was reportedly threatened to deport him if the suspect did not pay her on demand.
Authorities later identified the suspect as Ilivia Yvette Lopez, 43, of Hemet. On March 25th, Lopex was placed in detention in the 32,000 block of Bob Hope Drive.
Hemet’s accomplice, Berta Gasso, 67, was also found in Lopez and taken into custody.
Both suspects were arrested on multiple theft-related charges, including fear tor.
“The massive amounts of funds involved will require the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office to intensify formal “white-collar” crime,” officials said.
No further details have been made as the investigation continues.
Anyone with information about the case will be asked to call Deputy Paul to the Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team at 760-836-1600.
“The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity, authorities said in a statement. Fear tor is a serious crime and we should not pressure anyone to feel frightened or give up on their hard-earned money.”
