The city of Los Angeles, the epicenter of the sports championship event, is adding yet another tournament to its host list: global competitive esports.

The Global eSports Federation announced Tuesday that it had chosen Los Angeles to host the 2026 Global Esports World Final Game.

“The Los Angeles 2026 Games exist as a symbol of eSports shaping the next generation, promoting opportunities for digital skills building, and driving cultural change,” said Paul Foster, CEO of the Global Esports Federation at El Segundo’s Times Building.

The media group will set out to reinvent the warehouse adjacent to The Times Building, which will become a virtual arena for players and audiences, said Dr. Patrick Snaion, executive chairman of the Los Angeles Times Media Group.

“We currently need to build Los Angeles’ first and largest global esports stadium on this campus by July 2026, and the challenge is that El Segundo Mayor Crispimentel has given him courteous support,” says Soon-Shiong.

The arena will have a week of competition and event celebrations scheduled for December 4th, 2026.

Los Angeles and El Segundo defeated eight other international cities before their choice, and Los Angle Mayor Karenbus said the two cities were being set up on their own to host global events. “We’re adding yet another major international event to our lineup, showing Los Angeles that the world is competing in every form, from the field to the arena to the digital stage.”

This is the first time the esports world final has been held in the US. The relatively new global competition has previously been held in Singapore, Istanbul, Riyadh and Lima.

The competitive video gramming event combines team sports and individual games with an estimated 1,000 athletes representing over 100 countries.
