First on Fox: The $250 million fraud scheme that utilized federally funded children’s nutrition programs during the Covid-19 pandemic has been described by FBI director Kash Patel as “one of the worst” in Minnesota history.

The FBI director told Fox News in a statement that 70 Minnesota people have been charged with their role in a vast “future” fraud scheme during the Covid-19 pandemic, which utilized a federal program designed to refund states to refund feeding costs to children.

The conspirators falsely claimed they had provided millions of meals during the pandemic, but instead spent the money on personal gain. Of the individuals charged, 38 pleaded guilty, FBI officials told Fox News Digital. More than dozens of individuals awaiting criminal trials, with the next trial beginning in August.

“Stolen over $250 million from hungry children during the pandemic to fund mansions and luxury cars is as shameless as it would make,” FBI director Kash Patel said in a statement. “We are proud of our FBI and our partners to dismantle this web of corruption, take accountability to dozens of people and send clear messages. If you exploit the most vulnerable people, we will find you and lead you to justice.”

The conspirators accused in the scheme are accused of making bills, filing fake attendance records, and misleading thousands of meals from hundreds of so-called food distributions “sites” throughout the state. It uses the decision to exempt U.S. Department of Agriculture’s decision to provide standard requirements for many standard requirements during the pandemic.

According to the charging documents, around 300 “food sites” in the state, along with so-called “food vendors” and organizations manufactured to wash out money intended to refund children for the cost of feeding.

FBI officials told Fox News that the investigation and the trials and prosecutions of the results continue to affect the state, already touching on Minnesota’s legislative reforms.

They added that the fraud investigation will remain ongoing and additional charges are expected, but they did not immediately share details.

“The terrible scams announced on the prey of our future incidents represent the deep betrayal of public trust. These individuals have diverted hundreds of millions of federal funds aimed at nourishing vulnerable children during times of crisis, and families have added as they endure luxury homes, high-end vehicles and luxurious lifestyles.

“We will uncover their schemes, dismantle their networks and ensure that they are responsible to the fullest extent of the law,” he said.
