Ventura County officials have arrested four people in connection with alleged cargo theft rings responsible for stealing more than $1.5 million in goods.
Detectives provided search warrants at local locations such as homes, storage facilities and businesses. They discovered stolen cargo on all sites, and the expensive items were guns, drugs and cash, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday.
Victor Alvarez, 40, Brenda Alvarez, 41, and Otto Javier Rivas, 38, of Southgate and Mauricio Heliberto Gosicor, 43, of Tijuana, were taken into custody and booked at the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of Auto Yahoo and Cago Yato.
The arrest warrants were issued to two more men allegedly involved.
The arrest followed a month’s investigation into the theft targeting the Camarillo industrial area between December 16, 2024 and January 5, 2025. The suspect stole the passenger car and moved to Ventura County, then used a stolen semi-truck to carry a trailer loaded with retail items.
On December 16th, the thief stole U-Haul from the postal spell, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The next day they were caught up in surveillance casing the port’s freight distribution centre.
On a great year day, they stole four semi trucks from the supply of custom packaging and returned to Harbor freight. Investigators said they plucked a trailer filled with cargo. They also stole two pickup trucks from a nearby neighborhood. The empty trailer was later found near the Commercial City and Otaymesa Port.
Authorities said the suspect would return on Jan. 5 to break into the stuffed animal trailer before moving its contents into a box truck to escape.
Investigators linked the stolen goods to Southgate and San Diego’s fencing operations, with the final destination being Tijuana, Mexico said.
“With support from the CHP Border Division, investigators were able to identify additional victims of cargo theft from California and across the country, including large companies such as Amazon, Artisans, Samsung, TJ Max and Converse. Investigators found stolen cargo from E-Lo Sportswear, an East Coast-based company,” the news release said.
The suspects were each held on $250,000 bail.
