Six people were detained in immigrant raids on Wednesday, forcing Pasadena Elementary School to be under lockdown, according to the National Day Workers Organization Network (NDLON).
Video captured Wednesday morning shows immigration agents near the intersection of Orange Grove Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue in Pasadena. There, the agents detained several people at the bus stop.
In the wake of the operation, Ndlon organized a vigil to honor the detained individuals and condemn President Donald Trump’s immigrant attacks.
“Six more workers were taken, six more families were devastated, and there were other parts of our city and some communities that were terrified by the cruel attacks of the Trump administration,” Ndlon’s co-executive director, Pablo Alvardo, said in a statement. “Primary school children and teachers today were locked up indoors, sought shelter from chaos and violence brought to peaceful communities by masked men.”
The organization did not specify which schools were locked down as a result of the attack. There are two schools near where the surgery was performed.
Metro Chair Janice Hahn condemned operations in Pasadena on Tuesday.
“The way ice is going on about these sweeps is scary,” her statement read. “We’ve already seen kids not going to school, go shopping, church, or even work. I wouldn’t be surprised if people read about this incident, seeing people avoiding the metro. This isn’t right.
In a statement to NBC4, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) did not specify that its agent had carried out the business in Pasadena.
“US immigrants, customs enforcers and agents are on the streets every day. Public safety is prioritized by finding, arresting and removing criminal foreign criminals and immigrant violators from our neighborhood,” Ice’s statement read. “All foreigners who violate US immigration laws may be subject to arrest or detention and have been removed from the US if the final order determines they are removable.”
