Authorities have confirmed that the 73-year-old man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in West Hollywood, leaving the man whose bicycle died.

Douglas Morton Adams was arrested Tuesday and charged with counting one felony that caused the death, the LA County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.

The collision occurred around 9:45pm on July 10th, when a bike later identified as Blake Ackerman was moving west on Fountain Avenue near Gardner Street. A preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that the car that hit him was a white “old model” BMW sedan driving at a private speed.

Three more people have been detained overnight in connection with a dead child found in a parking lot in Panorama City

Rather than giving assistance as required by the law and stopping to identify itself, authorities said, BMW fled the scene of the crash.

Ackerman, 26, was rushed to Cedars Sinai Hospital, where he was injured. His employer, law firm Morgan Lewis, said he was a litigation associate who graduated from USC in 2020 and earned a law degree from Loyola Law School three years later.

“Blake was kind, lively and full of endless possibilities. He lived well in too short years and achieved a lot,” the company said in a statement.

Blake Ackerman, as seen in the photos included in the GofundMe, which was set up to help his family after his death.

Founded to support Blake’s family, GoFundMe raised more than $163,000 on Wednesday morning, but Blake described it as “full of bright light, energy, kindness and unwavering love for the people around him.”

“Whether he brought people together, planned his next snowboarding trip, cheering on the Dodgers and King, swimming in Hawaiian waters or playing water polo, Blake lived to the fullest every day,” says Gofundme. “He was the centre of his family, adoring brother, awaiting uncle, a devoted son and grandchild, an integral part of all the communities he participated in.”

A supplementary service ceremony was held at Shimi Valley on Tuesday for a break. The Ghost Bike Memorial, a bicycle painted white and placed at the site of the bike’s death, is scheduled to be installed Wednesday morning, according to the Weho Times.

Douglas Morton Adams was held on $50,000 bail and bonded Tuesday night, according to inmate search records.

The court date for the 73-year-old suspect is not listed.
