As unidentified aircraft roam the night skies in parts of the United States, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York has called on the Department of Homeland Security to deploy 360-degree radar systems that can detect drones.
“Local residents who have questions about these drones shouldn’t have to shake the eight-ball to get answers,” Schumer said, holding the magic eight-ball toy in one hand and the drone’s toy in the other. He spoke while holding the image.
Schumer wants to deploy a 360-degree radar system made by Dutch company Robin Radar Systems in the New York and New Jersey area.

Robin Radar Systems’ website states, “Whether it’s birds, bats, or drones, our 360-degree radar systems record thousands of observations, scanning every second to accurately track and classify them.” Masu.
“They want real answers, and Robin can provide those answers. That’s why we want them here,” Schumer said.
“In response to my call for additional resources, our federal partners are deploying state-of-the-art drone detection systems to New York State,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement Sunday.

“DHS has responded directly to Congressional inquiries through official channels, and the department will continue to respond appropriately to Congressional oversight,” a DHS spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
Alejandro Mayorkas, from the Department of Homeland Security, said on ABC’s “This Week” that sightings include drones, but “there are also manned aircraft that are often mistaken for drones.”
He said he was “not aware of any foreign involvement” in connection with the “sightings in the northeast.”
