A Southern California man has recalled the horrifying moment he was violently attacked and punched unconscious by an aggressive driver on the road.

Brian Sipe, 60, said he was lucky to be alive after the attack and hoped his attacker was caught soon.

At about 5:45 a.m., Zaip, a traffic control engineer, was driving to work on Mariposa Avenue in Hesperia, which runs parallel to Highway 15.

That’s when the driver of the silver pickup truck began to get hostile toward him, cutting off his hand and slamming on his brakes, nearly forcing him off the road, he said.

Seip tried to de-escalate the situation by pulling over to pass the suspect, but the suspect also pulled over instead.

“He came from the same side of the road as me and cut me off,” Seip recalled. “I got out of the truck and asked, ‘What’s going on, why are you cutting my hand off?’ And he got out of the truck with a pipe and hit me in the head. .The next thing I knew, he was gone.”

Brian Seip, 60, said he was lucky to be alive after being knocked unconscious with a metal pipe by a road rage assailant in Hesperia in December 2024. Seip was left unconscious in the middle of the road. The assailant returned to the truck and fled the scene.

He was bloody and bruised, but when he regained consciousness he was able to call his wife for help. She rushed him to the hospital, where he was treated and had seven staples to close his head wound.

In the end, Seip said he was grateful to be alive and that the ordeal could not have been worse.

“This situation should not have happened,” Seip said. “He could have killed me.”

He described the suspect as a small man in his early to mid-20s driving a silver pickup truck. He hopes the suspect is arrested soon before another driver becomes the next target.

“If you use force like this against me, the same thing can happen to other people,” Seip said. “If the word spreads enough and you’re caught, I hope you’re punished for what you’ve done,” he told the attackers.

The incident is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call 909-884-0156.
