House Democrats are balking at the latest spending plan released Thursday by Speaker Mike Johnson.

“Musk-Johnson’s proposal is not serious, it’s ridiculous. Extreme MAGA Republicans are forcing us into a government shutdown,” said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Representative Richard Neal, D-Mass., suggested that Democratic leaders would whip their members to vote “no” on the deal.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) lamented that the previous agreement was undermined by conservative opposition, following comments from DOGE leaders Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.

“Everyone agreed,” he said, “and then it was blown up by Elon Musk, who clearly became the fourth branch of government. That’s just an unacceptable way to proceed.”

“Democrats are going to figure out how they can salvage the public good from the wreckage that has been dislodged.”

After the bill text was announced, cries of “hell” could be heard inside the room where Democrats were meeting.

The latest continuing resolution (CR) extends current government funding levels for three months and suspends the debt ceiling for two years, as requested by President-elect Trump.

It was created after the original 1,500-page CR drew opposition from the right because of policy and funding riders.

House lawmakers could vote on the new bill as early as Thursday night.

It was not immediately clear whether the new deal would pass, but Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), who led the opposition to the original bill, also slammed the new deal.

“More debt, more government. $4 trillion more credit cards with spending restraints and zero cuts. Absolute no,” Roy wrote to X.

With debt at $36 trillion and a budget deficit of $1.8 trillion in 2024, some conservatives are pushing the CR to extend the funding deadline until March and keep spending at full 2024 levels. is against.

Without votes from conservative Republicans, Mr. Johnson will have to rely on Democrats to pass spending legislation in the House.

President Trump praised the agreement minutes after Fox News Digital reported on it.

The deal also includes aid for farmers and about $110 billion in disaster relief funds for Americans affected by storms Helen and Milton.

The bill also includes certain health care provisions, with the exception of pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reforms, which were sought by some Republicans and Democrats but fiercely opposed by others.

President Trump said of the agreement, “Speaker Mike Johnson and the House of Representatives have come to an agreement that is very good for the American people. The newly agreed American Rescue Act of 2024 will keep the government open, “It will provide funding and relief to our great farmers and others.” For those severely affected by the devastating hurricane. ”

“Every Republican, and even Democrats, should do what’s best for our country and vote ‘yes’ on this bill tonight!” he wrote.

Immediately after the FOX News Digital report, House leadership released the legal text of the bill. The bill was approximately 116 pages long, a far cry from the original 1,547-page bill.

House Democrats are balking at the latest spending plan released Thursday by Speaker Mike Johnson.

It comes as conservatives led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy on Wednesday blocked Speaker Mike Johnson’s original government funding plan, raising concerns that the government could be partially shut down just before the holidays. This is due to the fact that it caused this.

Republican hardliners were furious at what they saw as last-minute additions to the bill of unrelated measures and policy riders.

House Republicans began negotiations on a “clean” bill known as a continuing resolution (CR), but those negotiations were upended when President Trump urged Republicans to combine CR with debt limit action. Ta. First half of next year.

Musk and Ramaswamy also weighed in on the fight, with Musk calling on Republicans who support the deal to lose their House seats.

In addition to averting a partial government shutdown through March 14, the bill also included provisions allowing for the revitalization of Washington, D.C.’s RFK Stadium. Allow ethanol fuel to be sold year-round. And while it would be the first pay increase for lawmakers since 2009, neither measure was included in the latest agreement.
