A suspected serial arsonist has been arrested in connection with a series of fires in the San Fernando Valley, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
On the evening of October 20th, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to an approximately 12-vehicle and structure fire in the area of Ventura Boulevard and Kester Street.
Authorities determined the fire was arson.
The Los Angeles Police Department Major Crimes Unit began an investigation and identified Ricardo Villanueva, 42, of Van Nuys, as the suspect. Authorities said Villanueva was taken into custody by Van Nuys patrol officers on Wednesday for an unrelated traffic violation and was identified through a wanted flyer prepared by detectives in the Major Crimes Division.
Villanueva was taken into custody and is currently being held at Valley Jail.
He was arrested on suspicion of arson in the October fire and was held on $230,000 bail.
The arrests were made following a series of arsons in Sherman Oaks from Tuesday night to Wednesday. Authorities are currently investigating whether Villanueva is also involved in this week’s fire.
