President-elect Trump announced Saturday that he has tapped the author of “The Apprentice” for a diplomatic role in the United Kingdom.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump nominated London-born British-American television producer Mark Burnett to be the next US special envoy to the UK.
“It is a great honor to appoint Mark Barnett as special envoy to the United Kingdom,” the president-elect said. “With a distinguished career in television production and business, Mark brings a unique combination of diplomatic acumen and international recognition to this important role.”
In addition to producing Trump’s former show, “The Apprentice,” Burnett also produced “Shark Tank” and led production on other shows such as “Survivor” and “The Martha Stewart Show.” In a post on Truth Social, President Trump praised the producers for producing some of the “greatest shows in the history of television.”

“He is a former chairman of MGM and a 13-time Emmy winner!” the Republican wrote. “Mark will strive to strengthen diplomatic relations, focusing on areas of mutual interest such as trade, investment opportunities, and cultural exchanges. Congratulations Mark!”
No one currently serves as the US special envoy to the UK. A special envoy’s role is typically temporary in nature and aimed at carrying out a specific mission, but President Trump did not specify the purpose of the role in his announcement.
