Nebraska’s Republican Gov. Jim Pillen was taken to the hospital Sunday with injuries after being fell from a horse.
Piren, 68, will be hospitalized for several days.
According to the governor’s office, the first-term governor was injured when he fell from a new horse while riding with his family.

Pillen was rushed to Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Nebraska, and then transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha out of an abundance of caution.
“The governor is alert and in continuous communication with his team,” Pillen’s office said in a statement.

Pillen’s office did not provide details about the nature or severity of his injuries.
Former Gov. Pete Ricketts, also a Republican, was term-limited, so the Republican governor was elected in 2022 and ran for governor that year.
Pillen then appointed Ricketts to the Senate to fill the seat vacated by former Republican Sen. Ben Sasse, who resigned in 2023 to become president of the University of Florida. Mr. Sasse subsequently resigned as president of the university.

Before being elected governor, Pillen worked as a veterinarian and ran a livestock operation.
