Two people were injured while evacuating from an apartment fire in San Bernardino early Monday morning, fire officials said.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department said crews were dispatched to a commercial fire in the 200 block of East 13th Street at 5:30 a.m.
“A 911 caller reported that a fire may have started in an apartment with four people trapped,” the department wrote in an X post.
When the unit arrived, it was discovered that heavy fire was coming from the first floor of the two-story apartment building, and SBCoFD announced that the second floor was immediately threatened and the main escape route for the second-floor unit was cut off. did.
Crews found two injured people outside. One person was injured jumping from the second floor, and the other was injured during the hasty evacuation of the apartment, fire officials said.
Fire officials said they began attacking the fire after giving first aid to the evacuees and searching the apartment.
“The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes of arrival,” SBCoFD said. “The fire ultimately damaged three units. A search of the building did not reveal any additional occupants.”

One of the injured evacuees was transported with moderate injuries, and the other was treated at the scene, police said. Officials did not immediately identify the patient who jumped from the second floor, but said no other injuries were reported.
SBCoFD said it responded with nine engines, two truck companies, three chief officers and two investigators.
The department also announced that a drone was used to monitor the fire from above.
“This real-time situational awareness allowed crews to monitor the progress of the fire, the heat of the structure, and monitor for embers falling on nearby structures,” SBCoFD said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
