Despite the fervent desire of many children, becoming a Disney princess is not the only thing that is great. In fact, according to some experts, it can be harmful to your health.
As detailed in the British Medical Journal’s annual light-hearted Christmas issue, “Disney princesses face serious health risks in the real world.”
For example, as 404 Media points out, Jasmine’s biggest threat may not be the power-hungry Jafar.
Instead, Sanne HB van Dijk and fellow authors argue that Jasmine’s lack of friends amounts to social isolation, which can lead to “mental health problems, anxiety, depression, and immune system damage.” According to the Telegraph of India, there is a risk of disability.
To make matters worse, Jasmine’s only companion, the tiger Raja, “looks like a gentle tiger, but… [but] That natural instinct could cause serious, even fatal, wounds and injuries to Jasmine, leading researchers to call it a “true Arabian nightmare.”
Also attracting attention is the risk of rabies faced by Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and the possibility of serious injury caused by Pocahontas’ cliff diving.
“But surprisingly, despite these risks, they seem to live happily ever after,” the study adds.
