An 18-year-old man was charged Tuesday in the stabbing death of an Azusa High School cheerleader.
Daniel Rodriguez is charged with murder, along with a charge of using a deadly weapon, according to court records.
Angelina Gonzalez was allegedly stabbed by her ex-boyfriend, Rodriguez, according to her family.
The stabbing happened Friday night in the 300 block of North Soldano Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The 17-year-old victim was a cheerleader and wrestler at Azusa High School. Relatives said Rodriguez picked up the victim from a cheerleading banquet on Friday night and never returned home.
Her stepfather, Robert Carabello, told NBC4 that he noticed the location of the girl’s cell phone at her ex-boyfriend’s house and went looking for it. When they arrived, they were greeted by police tape and officers.
The motive for the attack is still under investigation.
Rodriguez remains jailed in lieu of $2 million bail, according to jail records. He is scheduled to be arraigned on January 8th.
