Spending hours hunched over a hot stove preparing a traditional Christmas dinner might not get you in the holiday spirit. For those who want to get out of the house on Christmas Day, there are plenty of places open around Los Angeles.
Watch Christmas movies or NBA games
Notably, AMC and Regal movie theaters will be open on Christmas Day, showing the season’s recent family releases such as “Mufasa: The Lion King,” “Moana 2,” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” in the morning. Screenings will be shown in the afternoon and evening. And “Wicked.”
The New Beverly Cinema will screen new interpretations of Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu and Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. The theater’s website says advance online tickets for both afternoon screenings are sold out, but tickets may be available in person at the box office an hour before show time.
If you’re looking for more adrenaline-pumping sports, Cosm, Inglewood’s new entertainment and sports venue, is open and hosting Timberwolves vs. Mavericks at 11:30 a.m. and Lakers vs. 11:30 a.m. offers two NBA shows in a doubleheader. The Warriors take on the Nuggets at the Suns at 5 p.m. General admission starts at $11 with standing room and seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserved seats for the doubleheader were sold out as of Monday night. Visitors will experience the action on an 87-foot-diameter wraparound LED screen, recalling the vision of the Las Vegas sphere.
shopping center and grocery store
Most businesses and shopping malls will be closed, including Glendale Galleria, Westfield Century City and The Citadel, but some stores and malls will remain open, as will restaurants and public areas where tourists can enjoy holiday decorations. There are several.
The Grove is closed, but La Piazza Italian restaurant and AMC Theater are open, and the outdoor mall will offer visitors a simulated snowfall at 6 and 8 p.m., a spokesperson said. It’s planned. Glendale Brand Americana may have individual stores open, but it also simulates snowfall between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Most grocery stores and retailers, like Target, will be closed on Christmas Day But before you go shopping for last-minute dinner ingredients, you should check with your local store.
Theme parks and other attractions
If you want to turn your vacation into a mini getaway, Southern California’s local theme parks are a great option.
Anaheim’s Disney parks, Disneyland and California Adventure, will be open on Christmas Day. Adult, one-day, one-park tickets start at $206 on Wednesday. The Christmas Fantasy Parade is scheduled for 2:30pm and 5:30pm on Main Street. The Downtown Disney District is also open with free admission. Universal Studios Hollywood is open on Christmas Day. One-day general admission tickets on Wednesday start at $154 for adults. CityWalk, a commercial district adjacent to the theme park with free admission, will also open.
On November 21, 2013, Disneyland visitors will cruise through the “It’s a Small World” holiday, which features various Christmas and holiday celebrations from around the world with lights and decorations.

If you think the theme park is too crowded, why not plan some time at the Balloon Museum, which features the interactive inflatable installation “Let’s Fly.”
“This unique exhibition pushes the boundaries of art, uniting creativity and freedom in an unforgettable sensory adventure through innovative inflatable art,” the website description reads. Adult tickets start at $52.21.
The Santa Monica Pier and Pacific Park amusement parks will be open, but individual concession stands on the pier may be closed.
L.A. Live, the downtown entertainment center adjacent to Crypto.com Arena, will host holiday ice skating on its outdoor rink on Christmas Day. General admission tickets, including skate rental, are $25 per person.
Another Christmas tradition for those who don’t celebrate Christmas
Not everyone celebrates at home. If that’s you, treat yourself to a non-Christmas tradition: Chinese food. However, be prepared to wait. One restaurant manager called December 25th the busiest day of the year.
