New York State Sen. Dan Steck is a Republican and Navy veteran running for Congress.

Steck threw his hat into the ring to replace Rep. Elise Stefanik, R.N.Y., who will fill a vacant seat in the House of Representatives and become the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Once Stefanik officially leaves Congress, a special election for New York’s 21st Congressional District will be held.

“At the end of the day, it’s about representing the district. Over the last 12 years in Albany, I know what it means to represent the district. If I can do it in Albany, I can do it in Washington.” I’m sure,” Steck told WWNY in a Dec. 24 interview.

The North Country native, whose state Senate district is in Stefanik’s House district, argued that he is the best candidate to win the Republican seat because he has the highest profile in the state.

“My argument is that I’m the most electable. If we’re concerned about preserving this seat and the Republican majority in the House, we want to bring forward the candidate most likely to win, but those numbers… There’s no one to compare it to.’I don’t have a problem with how much of the district I already represent,” Steck told the outlet.

“I’m proud of my accomplishments, my resume, and my philosophy. I’m embarrassed to give an explanation that someone across the aisle I’ve worked with might have to give. There are no votes that say, ‘Please explain,”’ Steck said.
