On Saturday afternoon, officers arrested a man suspected of breaking into six businesses in Los Angeles County between January 2 and 4, according to the Claremont Police Department (CPD).
Over the past two nights, the man, identified as 30-year-old Hector Bernal of Covina, allegedly attacked four businesses in the 800-900 block of West Foothill Boulevard and the 700 block of South Indian Hill Boulevard. They are said to have robbed two businesses on the block.
CPD detectives and officers pieced together information from each robbery investigation, ultimately leading them to a local hotel in Claremont where Bernal was staying.
On Saturday, detectives continued surveillance at the hotel until around 12:50 p.m., at an undisclosed time, when they saw Bernal leave the premises with a woman.
Authorities arrested Bernal without incident on six counts of commercial robbery, grand theft, theft of futures, and possession of stolen property.
CPD also announced that a woman identified as Alexis Tinoco, 28, of Upland, was also arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property. Authorities transported both Bernal and Tinoco to the CPD jail for booking.
Detectives then executed a search warrant on Bernal and Tinoco’s hotel room and discovered additional stolen items inside, the department said.
CPD said the items included stolen items belonging to a Claremont victim who Bernal allegedly robbed within the past 48 hours.
Bernal will be held at the CPD jail until his appearance in Pomona court on Jan. 7 at 8 a.m., officials said, while Tinoco was released on a written promise to appear in court.
