Three special elections in Virginia on Tuesday will give Americans their first look at suburban voting trends for the 2025 gubernatorial general election and 2026 midterm elections.
In once-deeply red Loudoun County, two state legislators vacated their seats and announced candidacies for the next level of Congress due to the chaos of the last federal election.
Loudoun, located midway between Charles Town, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C., has tended to turn blue in recent years due to suburban sprawl caused by liberal Washington residents leaving the District of Columbia, and issues such as transgender politics and school violence. It is also the epicenter of a national controversy surrounding the issue.
Additionally, former U.S. Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) is upset for the third time in Lynchburg, with Republican Glenn Youngkin serving as governor and Democrats controlling the Virginia Senate with a single vote. It was the stage for a special election.
