Firefighters in the San Fernando Valley are responding to the Sylmar wildfire, and crews in Pacific Palisades and Altadena are battling other wildfires that have prompted evacuation orders in their respective areas.
The Sylmar brush fire, known as the Hearst Fire, was reported near the 15000 block of W. Yarnell Street at 10:10 p.m. As a result, residents from Roxford north of the 210 Freeway to the junction of the 5 and 14 Freeways were ordered to vacate their homes.
The San Fernando Valley wildfires occurred as Santa Ana winds triggered high wind warnings across Southern California. Unrelenting wind gusts contributed to the Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades and the Eaton Fire in Altadena.
NBC4 Meteorologist David Biggar warned residents in the foothills to be especially prepared in case of an evacuation order or warning.
“…you need to have a carry-on bag ready and you need to pay close attention to official notifications from firefighters, police and officials about evacuation orders,” Biggar said.
