Two more fires broke out in Los Angeles County Tuesday night, the Sylmar Fire and the Tamarack Fire, prompting evacuations and highway closures.

After 10:30 p.m., authorities issued a mandatory evacuation order for the Sylmar Fire, also known as the Hearst Fire.
Initial estimates put the fire at 100 acres, but just before midnight the fire was said to have grown to about 600 acres. The Los Angeles Fire Department has issued evacuation orders for the following areas:
Mandatory Evacuation from Roxford to Interstate 210 North 5/14 Highway Split Evacuation Warning (yellow on map): 5 Freeway to Woodley/Balboa, LaHaye Street, Zelza Avenue.
LAFD announced that it has opened a shelter at the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center located at 10736 Laurel Canyon Blvd, Pacoima 91331.
The fire reportedly first started just north of Highway 210 near the 5/14 junction around 10:10 p.m.
The City of LA Emergency Alert posted evacuation information on X, adding, “People who are not in an evacuation area should evacuate to a designated location.”
Caltrans also announced that all lanes of westbound I-210 at the X will be closed at 11:38 p.m., and all traffic will be diverted to Roxford Street.
“The southbound Interstate 5 and eastbound Interstate 210 connectors are also closed,” Caltrans said. “We can expect more closures in this area soon.”

The National Weather Service reported that conditions for the Sylmar Fire included humidity of 20 to 25 percent and north-northeast winds of 35 to 50 mph.
The weather bureau added: “50 to 70 mph along the ridge just north of the fire.”
tamarack fire
Additionally, another wildfire broke out in the Sun Valley area along Highway 5 near Lankershim Boulevard.
A California Highway Patrol incident report, dubbed the Tamarack Fire, says authorities closed Highway 5 while crews worked to extinguish the fire.
As of 11:30 p.m., no acreage or evacuations had been reported due to the Tamarack Fire.
