ALTADENA, Calif. (KTLA) – A wildfire that broke out Tuesday night in the Eaton Canyon area near Altadena is forcing evacuations as devastating storms continue to batter Southern California.
The Eaton Fire was first reported around 6:30 p.m. near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive and had grown to more than 1,000 acres as of 12:07 a.m. Wednesday.

The destructive and life-threatening storm is expected to reach maximum wind speeds Tuesday night and continue into Wednesday.
Crews from the Pasadena Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department and U.S. Forest Service are responding to the blaze, and surrounding areas are being evacuated.

Fire officials are asking the public to be prepared, heed evacuation warnings and stay off the roads if possible so emergency personnel can access areas at risk.
Officials also announced that all schools in the Pasadena Unified School District will be closed Wednesday.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
