WASHINGTON — President Biden is scheduled to address the nation Thursday about the fires raging across Los Angeles.
“This morning, I was briefed on the latest impacts of the Los Angeles wildfires, and later today, after President Carter’s service, I will convene my team to meet again and address the nation on our response. Plan,” Biden posted on X.
The exact timing of the president’s speech has not yet been determined.
Biden was in Los Angeles for a scheduled visit early Wednesday. While there, he met with Gov. Gavin Newsom and fire officials and pledged federal funding and support to help California end the wildfires.
“We are prepared to do whatever it takes to contain the fire,” Biden said Wednesday at the Santa Monica Fire Station.
Biden said Wednesday that his son Hunter Biden, who owns a home in Malibu, was notified that his home may have burned down. The Daily Mail reported on Thursday that the house had been destroyed.
Biden also announced at the press conference that his eldest daughter, Naomi Biden, gave birth to a baby boy at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, making him a great-grandfather.
The president returned to Washington to attend President Carter’s funeral Thursday morning. He also canceled a planned visit to the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis.
President-elect Donald Trump, who also attended Carter’s funeral, continued his active political feud with Newsom in public, telling Truth Social early Thursday, “The fire has been rapidly spreading for three days. Containment is zero. No one has ever seen such failures. “Gross incompetence” by Gavin Newscome. [Los Angeles Mayor] Karen Bass…and Biden’s FEMA has no money – all wasted on the Green New Scam! LA is completely wiped out!!!”
