Vice President-elect J.D. Vance has resigned his Senate seat as he prepares to take office alongside President-elect Donald Trump.
Vance has served in the Senate since early 2023, resigning about two years into his six-year Senate term.
“I do hereby resign from my position as a member of the Ohio State Senate, effective January 10, 2025,” Vance said in a resignation letter to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine that is circulating online.

Vance added, “As I prepare to assume the role of Vice President of the United States, I would like to express that it has been an honor and privilege to serve the people of Ohio in the Senate for the past two years.” added.
Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said in a post on X that he would “really miss” Vance as his Senate colleague.
“Over the past two years, he has become a dear friend and trusted ally,” Lee said. “But the Senate’s loss is also the Senate’s gain because he is about to become president of the Senate, a position that belongs to the vice president.”

Vance responded by saying, “The feeling is mutual!”
Mr. Trump and Mr. Vance, who defeated the Democratic ticket in the 2024 presidential election, are scheduled to be sworn in later this month on January 20.
“Dear people of Ohio, I am deeply grateful for the privilege of serving as your representative in the United States Senate. When I was elected to this office, I promised to never forget where I came from and to make sure I lived. “I keep that promise every day,” Vance said in a statement regarding his resignation from the Senate.

“The American people gave President Trump an undeniable mandate to put America first at home and abroad. Over the next four years, I will do everything in my power to help President Trump implement his policies. “Together, we will make America stronger, safer and more prosperous than ever before,” he added.
