Lawyers and legal experts blasted New York Judge Juan Machan’s decision in New York v. Trump just days before President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. He said it would be remembered as one of the “worst” incidents in history.

“I’ll tell you how it struck me, but if you look at historical events that have happened, not just in the United States, but actually around the world, this will be remembered as one of the worst. This will be remembered as an absolute case that was unjust from the beginning,” Fox News host Mark Levin said on Fox News after the verdict.

Marchan on Friday morning granted Trump unconditional release without penalties such as fines or jail time.

“This is the end of the politicization of the justice system,” said Fox News contributor Leo Terrell. He is a civil rights lawyer whom President Trump named this week as senior adviser to the Justice Department’s assistant attorney general for civil rights in the incoming administration. .

Donald Trump acquitted in New York criminal trial; judge hopes for second term ‘Godspeed’

Trump was sentenced Friday morning.

“In my opinion, Trump’s victory in the election basically neutralized this case, and any attempt to smear President Trump with a deep red felon will be reversed in a matter of time. And I’m telling you this.” After 35 years of experience, this case should never have been tried, but let me be clear: this case failed. ”

In comments to FOX Digital, Terrell added that he was “drooling to go to the Department of Justice,” where the department would “pursue justice” in the New York case and other cases filed against Trump. He said he plans to be heavily involved.

“I will stop anti-Semitism, I will stop going after Catholic families, parents who attend school board meetings, and the abuse and abuse of the legal system for political gain. intends to be involved in any investigation and is willing to work 24/7 to unravel all this nonsense,” he said, noting that documents and communications surrounding the Trump case “will be exposed.”

Prior to his sentencing, Marchand stressed Friday that the court system is treating Trump’s case the same way it treats all other criminal cases.

“After careful analysis, this court has determined that the only lawful sentence to allow entry of a guilty verdict is an unconditional discharge,” Machan said Friday. “At this time, I would impose that sentence to cover all 34 counts.”

Machan added: “Your Excellency, I wish you the best of luck in your second term.”

Republicans blast Trump’s ‘joke’ verdict 10 days before sentencing

FOX News contributor and lawyer Trey Gowdy said Friday that if Trump’s case were handled like any other in New York, it would mean there are “a lot of bad trials going on in New York.” ”, he emphasized.

“The court’s time is precious. It’s a precious resource. We shouldn’t waste a single minute of this time on a case that even the prosecutors agree to. So if Juan Melchan handles this case… To say it didn’t make any difference to me means just that,’ there are a lot of bad trials going on in New York,” Gordy said.

Legal scholar and Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley likened Marchan’s comment that Trump’s case was similar to other cases in New York to Mary Shelley’s “Dr. Frankenstein.”

“Martian appears to be filing this lawsuit in his own defense, arguing that this case is no different than any other New York case. This case was held long after the jury had left the courtroom. It’s like Dr. Frankenstein saying, ‘He’s just like any other man.’ It’s not at all normal to link this case to a complete misdemeanor and the dismissal of federal charges. No,” Turley said on X.

President Trump told the court before the verdict that the case was a “huge embarrassment for the state of New York” and stressed that voters “categorically” reelected him to the White House in November.

Fox News legal editor Kelly Urban added on Friday that when she entered the courtroom, she noticed widespread support for Trump on the street.

“The protesters themselves that were here were just Trump supporters. And even as I’m standing here right now, I’m looking out into the square and I’m seeing people with Trump flags.” I don’t want this legal action anymore.” A person holds a placard that says, “I don’t want this legal action anymore.”

During Trump’s trial last spring, cameras were not allowed in the courtroom. But for sentencing, Marchand agreed to allow audio, which Urban found odd.

“It’s worth noting that there was no audio during the trial. There were no cameras either, but Judge Marchan agreed to play the audio for this sentencing, which is why he wanted the world to hear his voice. “I couldn’t do that before, so I sentenced Donald Trump,” she said on Fox News.

Marchan earlier this month set Trump’s sentencing for January 10, but quickly encountered repeated attempts to delay or block the sentencing. Before sentencing, Marchand said he would not impose “any incarceration” on Trump and would likely instead sentence him to “unconditional release.”

Trump’s lawyers appealed to the New York State Court of Appeals to block the sentencing. However, the court rejected his request. President Trump also filed an emergency motion with the U.S. Supreme Court, stating that “pending the final resolution of President Trump’s interlocutory appeal raising issues regarding presidential immunity, pending criminal proceedings in the Supreme Court of New York County, State of New York… I order the suspension immediately.” Including this court if necessary. ”

Trump’s filing asks that “the court also issue a temporary administrative stay, if appropriate, while it considers this motion for a stay.”

The Supreme Court rejected this request. Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh indicated they would grant Trump’s motion to delay sentencing, but the order also included Chief Justice John Roberts and Amy Coney. It has been suggested that Justice Barrett voted with Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Katanji. Brown Jackson rejected Trump’s request.

President Trump said the evidence in the lawsuit was released during his first term in office following the Supreme Court’s July ruling that former presidents have effective immunity from prosecution for official acts while in office, but not for unofficial acts. He vowed to appeal the conviction, arguing that it was related to his duties as president.

Trump urgently petitions Supreme Court to block New York sentencing V. Trump

“I intend to appeal this case, and I am confident that justice will prevail. The poor dying remnants of the witch hunt against me are here to help us unite and make America great again.” No distractions!” Trump posted on Truth Social shortly after the Supreme Court’s order on Thursday.

Former President Donald Trump addresses reporters at the end of the day of his trial on charges of concealing hush money payments in Manhattan Criminal Court in New York City, May 7, 2024.

“Every legal scholar has unequivocally stated that this is a case that should never have been filed. There was no case against me. In other words, I am innocent of all of the judge’s trumped-up and false charges. Yes, this is no different than the weaponization of our judicial system against political opponents. -It’s called fair, and this kind of highly political and corrupt behavior should never happen in the United States to this day, so the judge put a gag order on me, so it’s a very important part of the case. My First Amendment right to speak on the side has been taken away,” the post added.

Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in the Manhattan incident in May. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office sought to silence former porn actress Stormi ahead of the 2016 election in order to silence her claims that Trump had an affair with her in 2006.・Efforts were made to prove that the company falsified business records to conceal the $130,000 payment to Mr. Daniels.
