Sheriff Robert Luna on Sunday urged anyone who believes a family member or friend is missing in the Los Angeles County wildfires to call authorities.
Luna said about 14 people are believed to be missing in connection with the fires, including the Palisades Fire on the Los Angeles County coast and the Eaton Fire northeast of Los Angeles. Both fires broke out Tuesday, with chaotic storms fanning the flames and destroying entire neighborhoods.
“I hope all 14 missing people will be found,” Luna said. “If you believe someone is missing, please contact the Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles Police Department, or Pasadena Police Department to make sure they have that information on file. We will have better information about who the missing person is and their last location. It will help.” ”
Luna encouraged people to continue searching for missing friends and family but to stay away from affected areas where power lines are down and fires are smoldering. A daily curfew is in effect for the Palisades and Eaton fire evacuation zones from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
“Someone may have fled quickly and gone to a friend’s house, a relative, a hotel or a shelter,” Luna said. “I can’t understand how people feel when they’re looking for a loved one and can’t find them or can’t hear from them. Please contact us and we’ll help. We will provide all medical services to the best of our ability. ”
