As President-elect Donald Trump criticizes the government’s response to the Los Angeles wildfire crisis, local and statewide officials are publicly inviting him to inspect the devastation himself.
“Fires are still raging in Los Angeles, and incompetent Polish officials don’t know how to put them out,” President Trump wrote on his Truth Social page late Saturday night. “Thousands of fine homes are gone and many more will soon be gone. There are deaths everywhere. This is one of the worst catastrophes in our country’s history. We can’t put out the fire. What’s the problem? With them?
Criticism of California and the city of Los Angeles’ preparedness for such a crisis is not only coming from the right. Gov. Gavin Newsom himself has called for an investigation into low water pressure at some fire hydrants and a drop in water supply from the Santa Ynez Reservoir.

But Newsom insists Trump’s attacks are motivated by political malice rather than genuine concern for the people of Los Angeles.
“People are literally fleeing. People have lost their lives. Children have lost their schools. Families have been completely torn apart. Churches have been burned down,” Newsom told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. Ta. “This guy wanted to politicize it.”
The feud between Newsom and Trump dates back to the president-elect’s first term in the White House. Most recently, the governor ordered a special legislative session to “stop Trump” in California immediately after his election victory.

“In the spirit of this great nation, we must not politicize human tragedy or spread disinformation from the sidelines,” Newsom continued.

The governor is not the only government official to invite Trump to tour the wreckage.
