A week after two major wildfires broke out in Los Angeles County, about 88,000 residents remain under evacuation orders.

“While these numbers are decreasing, as our fire partners have stated, the next 24 hours remain extremely dangerous,” Sheriff Robert Luna said.

The Security Bureau gave the following advice to those returning to Japan:
Please follow official guidance: Return to your premises only when authorities have declared it safe. Dangerous conditions may persist even after the fire is extinguished. Check your surroundings: Look out for unstable structures, downed power lines, or weakened trees that may pose a hazard. There may be hazards on the road that have not been removed. Wear protective clothing. Protect yourself from debris, ash, and airborne particles by wearing sturdy shoes, gloves, and a mask. Mental Health Hazard: Avoid direct contact with ash, which may contain toxic substances. If you have a respiratory illness, limit your exposure to ash and smoke and use an N95 mask if necessary. Please check the utility before use. Do not attempt to restore power, gas, or water until a professional has inspected your system. Report any visible damage or strong odor, such as gas, to your utility company immediately.
As of Tuesday morning, the 23,700-acre Palisades Fire was 17% contained, up from 14% earlier in the week. The Eaton Fire in the Altadena area was 35 percent contained at 14,100 acres, up from 33 percent.
A curfew will remain in place in the evacuation zone from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. More than 600 National Guard troops are assisting local agencies with patrols, and authorities have reported dozens of arrests for robbery, curfew violations and other crimes.
As of Tuesday morning, the sheriff’s office had arrested 39 people in the evacuation zone, Luna said. Los Angeles Police Department reported 14 arrests.
