The San Gabriel Valley man who built the water pump credited with saving homes from the Palisades fire has been inundated with calls and emails from anxious homeowners trying to save their homes the next time tragedy strikes. are.
South Pasadena resident David Whitman builds a water pump, which he calls a “mini fire engine,” on his patio. He describes them as self-contained sprinkler systems that pump water from the pool onto the property to protect it from fires.
Whitman’s tool reached its full potential when a father-son duo used the pump to protect their Palisades Highland home from the Palisades Fire. Since then, Whitman’s company, Brushfire Battle Systems, has been inundated with requests from customers.
“This is a passion project of mine,” Whitman said. “And it became a little bit more than that.”
According to his company’s website, Whitman’s water pumps are “capable of delivering more than 90 gallons of water per minute up to 200 feet in diameter.”
