The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced Thursday morning that a Metrolink train collided with a car in the City of Industry, killing two people inside.
Metrolink train 407 collided with a white Toyota Camry on the tracks near the intersection of Rose Hills Road and Capitol Avenue around 8 a.m. Thursday, killing the two people inside, authorities said. According to Metrolink, the train was traveling between Industry and Montebello Commerce stations.
Two other people were taken to hospitals with moderate injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Authorities have not said how they were involved in the accident, and the identities of the victims have not been released.
Five passengers on the train reported non-life-threatening injuries in the incident, Metrolink said. The agency said two trains were suspended after the accident, but customers were provided with alternative transportation and the rest of Thursday’s schedule was not affected.
It is unclear how the car ended up in the path of the oncoming train. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
Last October, a pedestrian was killed on the Metrolink tracks between Lancaster and Palmdale. The accident occurred at a location where there is no intersection.
