Malibu schools that were closed due to the Palisades fire are expected to reopen this week.
The Santa Monica-Malibu School District said officials’ goal is to have students back in class on Tuesday.
The four schools that were closed due to the fire – Webster Elementary School, Malibu Elementary School, middle school and high school – were in good condition and there was no damage, the district said.
Although there was no damage, crews had to remove a significant amount of debris, ash, and soot from the campus, including inside classrooms.
Officials are scheduled to meet Sunday to finalize a reopening plan. Resources for families and staff affected by the bushfires can be found here.

Four schools were also closed due to the Franklin fire in December.
However, not all schools in the area survived the fire, as the Palisades Charter High School campus was destroyed. The school enrolls approximately 3,000 students from 110 zip codes.

The school has started a fundraising campaign to help with recovery from the fire. Proceeds will go toward immediate needs such as restoring technology infrastructure, creating temporary space for in-person instruction, securing additional buses for sports and team competitions, and replacing lost equipment.
