Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson vowed on Sunday that when he returns to the Oval Office on Monday, he will oppose President-elect Trump’s sweeping reforms aimed at removing dangerous illegal immigrants accused of crimes from the United States. I strengthened it.

In preparation for changes in federal administration, the Mayor’s Office has pledged that the city will continue to comply with the Illinois Trust Act of 2017, which prohibits local police from participating in federal immigration enforcement.

The voices of his opponents continued to be loud Sunday.

“Chicago is in a strong position. Our resolve to protect and support our city is unwavering, no matter the circumstances,” Johnson wrote in a social media post. “We will continue to fight for justice and safety for all who call this place home.”

Chicago officials slam Brandon Johnson’s new ice guidelines: ‘Who is the mayor trying to protect?’

The mayor also shared comments he made in November after Trump won the election.

In the nearly 1-minute, 10-second video, Johnson said he and other city officials were going to protect Chicagoans, and that Trump’s threats were aimed not just at new immigrants and undocumented immigrant families, but also at black families. He told those in attendance that he was being treated as such.

He also accused President Trump of wanting to destroy public education and “level the playing field for families descended from slaves.”

“We’re going to stand up and we’re going to protect illegal aliens,” Johnson said. “We are going to protect Black people, brown people, Asian people…Listen, the anti-sentiment that exists in this political space is unconscionable and dangerous.

“Whether it’s anti-Blackness or anti-Semitism, we’re going to protect our people and invest in our people,” Johnson continued. “The city of Chicago will be better, stronger and safer regardless of who is in the White House.”

Johnson’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on this story.

Earlier this month, Johnson released guidelines for how to handle visits by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents when they enter city property.

Johnson’s guidelines state, “If you require further guidance, please contact your agency or department’s designated attorney or general counsel. Contact the highest-ranking official or designated supervisor at your site, and contact that person. Please do not take any action until this happens.”

The guidelines require a copy of the warrant and do not consent to ICE entering a “private or ‘sensitive’ location,” but do not obstruct the search even if denied. Additional recommendations include taking notes and keeping written records of the moment.

Chicago is home to tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants, but residents are pleading with city officials that they don’t have enough resources to help them. More than 20,000 migrants have arrived in the city since August 2022, and thousands are in shelters, according to a previous report by Fox 32 Chicago.

The evacuation of migrants has drawn anger from residents as it has reportedly cost the city $574.5 million since August 2022. At the last City Council meeting on Dec. 3, residents opposed a proposed roughly $60 million property tax increase to help officials overcome a $1 billion property tax bill. By the end of last year, the budget was short.
