Two people suspected of impersonating firefighters were detained Saturday while attempting to pass through a checkpoint reserved for emergency personnel responding to the Palisades fire.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Commander Minh G. Dinh said at a news conference Sunday that deputies stopped two people who were attempting to enter the checkpoint in a vehicle that looked like a fire truck.
During the interrogation, it was learned that one of the deputies had purchased the vehicle at an auction. Authorities also learned that the two had been in the area for several days.
Ding said the two men had equipment similar to that used by firefighters, including radios and dispatch gear. As a result, they were booked at Malibu Lost Hills Station. Their cases will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges.
The two suspects, one male and one female, had no criminal history in California. However, the man has a history of criminal mischief and arson charges in Oregon.
