Sen. Lindsey Graham (RS.C.) had a tense exchange Sunday during a live interview with Margaret Brennan on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
Graham told Brennan that he was “ready” to vote to confirm Kash Patel, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to head the FBI, adding that Patel’s confirmation hearing would “make him a very important member of the legal profession.” I believe that he will prove to be a suitable candidate for the position.”
The remarks came after Brennan cited former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr’s memoir about Patel.
“Mr. Patel had virtually no experience that qualified him to serve at the highest levels of one of the world’s leading law enforcement agencies,” Barr wrote in his 2022 memoir.

Mr Graham said Mr Barr was wrong when he wrote the book and he is wrong now about Patel. He said he was taking advice from former Congressman Trey Gowdy, who worked with Patel, on potential candidates.
“Kash was a public defender, a prosecutor, and worked with Trey Gowdy on the Russia hoax,” Graham said. “So I think he has the experience. He’s trusted by the president.”

“I am ready to vote for him because I know him too. [you] He never asked about the Russia hoax he exposed,” Graham continued, adding, “People on the right believe he was part of the solution, not the problem.”
Graham then began talking about the relationship between this situation in the Middle East and the “world stage.”
“You took me from Kash Patel to Israel,” Brennan said.

When Brennan asked about Patel “going after journalists,” Graham replied, “You don’t have to worry about Kash Patel.”
“We should be concerned about reporting the news fairly, but we don’t do that when it comes to everything about Trump,” Graham concluded.
The CBS host then reminded Graham that he was a guest on the show “because we wanted to hear your story” before taking a commercial break.
