(KTLA) A 33-year-old man is free on bail after allegedly beating and threatening a woman who was pregnant with his child with a knife in the Bloomington area of San Bernardino County over the weekend.
Shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a 911 call about a woman being assaulted in the 17700 block of Randall Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Upon arrival, officers learned the victim was pregnant and identified the suspect as 33-year-old Jose Vargas Zambrano.
“During the argument, Zambrano repeatedly punched her, pushed her back into the bedroom, pinned her down, and strangled her,” the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators say Zambrano was armed with a knife and threatened the victim not to leave the house to seek help.
The unidentified victim eventually fled and called for help. “She was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene for injuries sustained during the assault,” the sheriff’s office said.
When officers learned that Zambrano no longer had the knife, they forced entry into the home and arrested Zambrano.
He was arrested on charges of domestic violence causing bodily harm, false imprisonment, assault with force likely to cause serious bodily injury, and brandishing a weapon.
Zambrano was held on $50,000 bail and was later released from custody after posting bond, the sheriff’s office said.
