Malibu’s four schools were scheduled to resume in-person learning Tuesday morning for the first time since the Palisades fire broke out.
However, three of the schools will remain closed and will be holding remote classes due to power outages.
Lights have been restored and electricity has been restored in some schools.
But that’s not the case for Malibu Elementary School, Malibu Middle School and Malibu High School, which are still in the dark.
Webster Elementary School has finally completed renovations and will reopen. Students had to be transferred to another school after smoke and flame damage from the Franklin Fire in December.
Then, after winter break, the Palisades Fire started.
For students, staff, and teachers at Webster Elementary School, coming to campus today is a hopeful step toward normalcy.
Families were evacuated and many were left homeless.
Thousands of firefighters from around the world have been working in the Palisades fire area for the past two weeks.
Officials said they had already pre-positioned crews to fire-prone areas due to strong winds expected Tuesday.
To inform families, many roads in the area remain closed and evacuations are in place. Pacific Coast Highway remains closed and some bus routes will be adjusted.
