Republican Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs on Tuesday announced his interest in running for governor in 2026, as Republicans seek to defeat incumbent Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs.
Biggs, an ally of President Donald Trump and former chairman of the conservative group Freedom Caucus, has filed the required expression of interest before he can begin gathering signatures to qualify for the ballot.
However, submitting a statement does not guarantee that the candidate will implement it.

Biggs chaired the Freedom Caucus from 2019 to 2021 and was one of eight Republicans who helped oust former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in 2023.
If Biggs were to run, there could be a fight with fellow Trump ally Karyn Taylor Robson.

“Are you going to run for governor? Carlin, I think so too. If so, I’d be rooting for you, right?” President Trump told the crowd at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest event in Phoenix last month. He said this.
Robson ran for governor in 2022, but lost to Kari Lake, who was endorsed by Trump. Mr. Lake lost that year’s election to Mr. Hobbs, and more recently lost the Senate race.
