Thousands of sandbags are being loaded in preparation for future storms that could cause landslides in Southern California’s recent fire zones.
Cal Fire and California Conservation Corps personnel were seen in Pasadena Tuesday filling bags for residents of the burn area at the base of the Eaton Fire.

“We recommend placing sandbags between the entrance areas of your home to provide diversion or create dams,” said Cal Fire spokesman Alejandro Chorico.
The National Weather Service expects the storm to reach Southern California on Saturday, dumping up to a half-inch of rain in some areas before lifting on Monday.
Officials said the fire had burned through the roots of plants and trees at the foothills, leaving nothing to hold the soil in place, raising the possibility of landslides.
Sandbags will be available starting Thursday to anyone with proof of residency in Altadena or Pasadena.

“Even if you feel you don’t need it and you’re in a fire-prone area, please pick it up. Stay safe and be cautious. Have your sandbags ready,” Pasadena city officials said. .
