Firefighters are working to extinguish a new wildfire, dubbed the Hughes Fire, that exploded east of Castaic Lake in northern Los Angeles County on Wednesday. The fire had burned more than 8,000 acres by 4 p.m., but could not be contained.
The evacuation order also included homes and businesses around the lake, including the city of Castaic. The cause of the fire was unknown.

The Hughes Fire occurred as crews began a last-ditch effort to extinguish the devastating and deadly Palisades and Eaton fires that destroyed more than 17,000 structures in Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Altadena and Pasadena. did.
