LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – Several school districts in fire-affected areas will be closed Thursday as the more than 10,000-acre Hughes Fire in Castiac continues to burn at 14% containment.
The Hughes Fire broke out around 10:50 a.m. in the area of Lake Hughes Road east of Castaic Lake, and more than 31,000 people have been evacuated and thousands more are under evacuation warnings.
All schools in the Castaic Union School District closed on Jan. 23, with Superintendent Bob Brauneisen saying in a statement that the closures were in response to “deteriorating air quality and the need to evaluate the safety of our facilities.” He said it was due to concerns.

College of the Canyons’ Valencia and Canyon Country campuses will be closed to students and staff, but “online classes and live online classes will continue as scheduled,” the school’s website states. are.
All schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District will remain open, and officials said they are “closely monitoring fire activity in the Castaic Lake area.”
Firefighters are expected to be out all night, and residents are urged to remain vigilant and evacuate immediately if instructed to do so.
