LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – A man posing as a childcare worker who lured a teenage girl into his car and sexually assaulted her late last year is in custody, and detectives believe there may be more victims.
Los Angeles Police Department officials said in a news release that the suspect, identified as Derrick Dwayne Thompson of Los Angeles, approached a 15-year-old girl as she was waiting at a bus stop on November 30th.
Thompson reportedly pulled up in a black Chevrolet Suburban with a sign on the door that read “CJ Angels Child Care.”
“The suspect told the victim that he worked in child services and offered to give the victim a ride home,” police said in a statement. “The victim got into the vehicle believing the suspect worked for child services.”
Investigators have not released details about the location of the incident, saying Thompson stopped the victim in a parking lot, ordered the teenage girl to get in the back seat and removed a child care sign from the Suburban’s door. He also did not reveal how far he drove. .

“The suspect got into the back seat with the victim, removed her clothes and sexually assaulted her,” the statement details.
Mr. Thompson is being held without bail and was eventually arrested on January 15, and the case was turned over to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for review.

The suspect was later formally charged by the public prosecutor’s office with forcible rape, sodomy by force against a victim over 14 years of age, and sexual penetration by force against a minor victim over 14 years of age.
Detectives believe there may be more victims and released Thompson’s photo and the sign he used on the side of his black Suburban in hopes that others will come forward.
