Pasadena city officials are reminding homeowners to start preparing for possible landslides caused by expected weekend rain.
Burnt hillsides stripped of vegetation do not absorb water well, which can lead to flash floods and landslides that can collect debris and destroy structures in their path. The size of the mudflow depends on the intensity of the rainfall, the duration of the storm, and the amount of vegetation left to hold everything in place.
The forecast is for some rain over the weekend.
In preparation, city leaders are advising residents to clear debris from gutters, downspouts and storm drains.
Improve water flow.
Free pre-filled sandbags and self-service sand will also be distributed throughout the week starting Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following locations:
Robinson Park, 1081 N. Fair Oaks, except Saturdays Victory Park, 2575 Paloma St. Fire Station 37, 3430 E. Foothill Blvd. Fire Station 38, 1150 Linda Vista Ave.
The number of sandbags residents can carry is limited to 10 per person.
City officials also noted that residents need to be wary of possible evacuation orders if new fires or large landslides start.
