Edison of Southern California says that “the equipment may be associated with” the fire that Hurst fire in the northern San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles.
The fire was one of several, including the deadly Eaton and Palisade fires that began with the powerful Santa Ana storm in January. The 800-acre fire ignited in the Schirmer area on January 7th, and was included eight days later.
The update from SCE was part of the information submitted to the California Public Utilities Commission. A utility is required to provide regular updates to the National Commission.
“SCE believes that the equipment may be related to the fire of the Hearst Fire,” the company said in a statement Thursday. “The cause of the fire remains under investigation and SCE continues to work with authorities.”
LAFD is also investigating the fire. The agency reported that a fire began north of Saddle Ridge Road, where SCE holds the power tower.
Videos, photos and more have been reviewed regarding the Eton fire, and it has been decided that the fatal wildfire began on January 7th.
“We don’t know yet what causes the Eaton Wildfire, but SCE is investigating all possible investigations, including the possibility that SCE equipment may have been involved,” said President and CEO of SCE’s parent company Edison International. Pedro J. Pizzarro said. “We have been fully engaged since the start of the fire to support a wider emergency response, containment, recovery and investigation efforts.”
In a statement, the company said that grid data, maintenance records, photos and videos will be used to determine the potential causes of the ignition, including whether SCE equipment could be related to the cause of the fire. He said it was part of the investigation. Several videos were revealed in days and weeks of the fire that appeared to show the first flames at Eton Canyon near the utility infrastructure.
